His frontier training began at an early age. Indians were a constant threat to the Lewis settlement on Wheeling Creek. Lewis’s father John Wetzel taught. Indian fighting became the sole focus of his life. People became even more uncomfortable with him; they began to doubt his sanity.

His real troubles began when he murdered Tegunteh. Wetzel had agreed to be the chief hunter for the new settlement of Marietta on the north side of. These young men became Indian hunters. The most legendary Indian Hunter of them all was Lewis Wetzel.

He set the template for the Indian-killing frontiersman. That’s Indian killer, not Indian fighter. Though Wetzel was an exceptional Frontier Partisan combatant, he did not hesitate to simply murder Indians in cold blood.

Wetzel’s first official job as an Indian fighter and scout came during the Revolutionary War. The war raged throughout the colonies as Indians led raids on colonial settlements to secure supplies and cause confusion in the backcountry.

Biography: Lewis Wetzel “The Death Wind" Lewis Wetzel () is considered the greatest of all frontiersmen, scouts, and Indian fighters of the Border Wars of the Upper Ohio Valley frontier.

His grandparents were immigrants from Germany, and Lewis was raised on a farm on Wheeling Creek (now Marshall County, West Virginia), 14 miles from its confluence with the Ohio.

Captain Samuel Brady (–) was an Irish-American Revolutionary War officer, frontier scout, notorious Indian fighter, and the subject of many legends, in the history of western Pennsylvania and northeastern is best known for reportedly jumping across a gorge over the Cuyahoga River to escape pursuing Indians in what is present day Kent, Ohio.
